Nebraska ACEP works closely with the Nebraska Medical Association Legislative Committee in an effort to closely monitor legislation that impacts not only emergency medicine throughout Nebraska but also the profession of emergency medicine as a whole. Each year, chapter officers and staff members participate in the Nebraska Medical Association Legislative meeting, where yearly legislation efforts are identified and prioritized. Current and previous legislative activities include:
- Nullifying efforts to repeal our state helmet law
- Maintaining our current malpractice cap
- Promoting statewide workplace smoking ordinance
- Exploring a statewide health insurance plan
In an effort to help the public and lawmakers understand the unique role of the emergency department team and to bolster support to overcome the many challenges we face, ACEP launched a campaign in May 2013 called “Saving Millions.” The campaign includes a series of print ads, radio messages and coordinated editorials in influential communications nationwide.
